BLACK RIVER FALLS -- Louis E Rochester, 74, of Black River Falls was called to heaven Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born April 24, 1943, in Black River Falls, to Elmer and Nettie (Johnson) Rochester. He was united in marriage to LuAnn Young July 17, 1966, at the Shamrock Church. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in June 1965, and was stationed in Alaska until his discharge in September 1967. He worked 10 years for the Jackson County Iron Mine as a welder and 10 years for the Tomah VA Medical Center in the laundry department. He then worked seasonal in the cranberry marshes and mossing before full retirement. He also worked as a logger off and on through the years. As far as fun, he enjoyed trips, panning for gold, exercising, gardening and especially being in the sunshine. He was always active as long as he felt good enough to do it. He also celebrated 50 years of marriage with LuAnn last July.
He is survived by his wife, LuAnn; three children, Candice (Blake Anderson) Johnson, Richard (Lisa) Rochester and Jodi (Travis) Krueger; seven grandchildren, Steven (Katie Nelson) Johnson, Mikayla Johnson, Ashley, Alyssa and Jake Rochester, Chase (Nicole) Krueger, Wyatt (Amanda Leis) Krueger; three great-grandchildren, Treyvon and Collin Johnson, Nolan Krueger and another grandson due in August; four sisters, Louise Schlintz, Laverne Blazek, Beverly Rochester and Diane Demaske.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mabel, Loretta and Geraldine; two brothers, Donald and Robert; seven brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at Pine Hill Church of Christ, W10385 Paquette Road, Black River Falls, with Pastor Bill Betts officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Sullivan Cemetery, rural Black River Falls.
Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Torgerson’s Funeral Home, 408 N. Water St., and again from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
