MELROSE — Russell “Russ” Schrinner, 86, of Melrose passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Black River Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 13, 1931, son of Herman and Alathea (Shaw) Schrinner in Milwaukee. Russell married Joan Gilbertson July 3, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Melrose.
Russ lived most of his early life in Manitowoc, Wis., where he graduated Lincoln High School in 1949. He graduated from University of Wisconsin in Madison, in 1953. Russ worked for various IBM offices in numerous states from 1954 until his retirement in 1986. While living in Ridgefield, Conn., Russ enjoyed volunteering with Ridgefield Open Space, maintaining hiking trails, and playing bass viol in the Danbury Symphony Orchestra.
Russ and Joan retired to Joan’s family home in Melrose, in 1987. He joined the Da Capo Band in La Crosse, where he enjoyed playing tuba for many years. Living in Melrose, he became active in Jackson County Bird Club and monitored bluebird trails with his wife. Russ was a member and financial secretary of the Melrose United Methodist Church and president of the Melrose Cemetery Association for many years.
Russ is survived by his wife, Joan; three daughters, Linda (Donald) Pribanic of Cape Coral, FL, Lauren (Scott) Fallon of Orange, CT, Leslie (Michael) Eggers of Rockton, IL; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward Schrinner.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at the Melrose United Methodist Church with Pastor Robbie Nowicki officiating. Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Melrose United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, and the Da Capo Band of La Crosse.
