The victim in the Black River Falls homicide case was shot in the head and found dead in the bathtub of her apartment, authorities revealed today.

Angela M. Nelson, 34, died of a single gunshot wound and was discovered dead in her Chestnut Street residence June 9. Authorities believe a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun was used, according to Black River Falls Police Chief Dave Frederick.

Suspect Michael L. Harmon, 36, was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee after an 11-day search. The lone suspect in the case, Harmon is being held in a Milwaukee jail on a probation hold and awaiting transport to Jackson County, which is expected early next week, Frederick said.

No charges against Harmon in the homicide case have been referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, and the investigation is ongoing, according to investigator John Christophersen.

Nelson, who moved to BRF from Sparta, was discovered dead at the apartment she shared with Harmon for a week and  a half after a concerned friend requested a welfare check.

Harmon’s ex-girlfriend, 32-year-old Billie Jo Harwick, was located last week after traveling with Harmon while he eluded authorities. Harwick, who was reported missing by family, contacted relatives and was located in Madison with her vehicle.

Harwick has been cooperative with authorities, although police won’t divulge what information they’ve obtained through interviews with her.

Information about Harmon’s Thursday interview with investigators also won’t be released, Christophersen said.

Frederick said Harmon’s arrest will assist in the ongoing investigation.

“It’s going to aid immensely in the investigation,” he said.
