The Black River Youth Swim team had a busy December.

Eleven swimmers participated in the Dec. 2 meet at Antigo. A highlight was Lily Miller swimming her first state meet qualifying time ever. Lily made the state cut in the 100 free by .02 seconds. Seven BRYS swimmers accounted for a total of 11 first place finishes including Allison Giroux, Liv Hanson, Lily Miller, Maren Bakken, Greta Bakken, David Jacobs and Anthony Oldendorf.

Eight swimmers competed at the Tomahawk swim club on Dec. 9. Julia Beam accounted for the team’s sole first place finish in the 15-18 year old 100 butterfly. Numerous personal bests were earned with Lyndsi Laufenberg, Anthony Oldendorf, Lily Olson, Liv Hanson and Jackson Shramek all having at least two personal bests.

There were 15 swimmers that participated at the Dec. 16 meet in Chippewa Falls including several first-year swimmers. Raven Wegman and Ben Lien swam their very first meets and had good performances. Sisters Hannah and Alyssa Tubbs had personal bests in all of their events. First place finishes included Greta Bakken in the 9-10-year-old 50 backstroke, Lily Miller in the 9-10-year-old 100 Individual Medley and Anthony Oldendorf in the 11-12-year-old breaststroke. Lucy Miller, Lily Miller, Lily Olson and Anthony Oldendorf each had three personal bests.

The swim team will be hosting a home meet on Jan. 13 at the Middle School pool starting at 10 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.
