There is nothing quite like opening up the file containing this week’s almost completed column and find it totally erased!
It is making for some scrambling trying to remember what I had on there and getting it ready for deadline. I am trying different methods of retrieving some of the information I had on there, but in the meantime if the people who sent news my way don’t see it here this week, please send again.
Talk about a new twist on the “my dog ate my homework” excuse, if this doesn’t convince me to start using my new computer, nothing will.
Mother Nature is sure on a tear. My heart goes out to the many affected by torrential rains around the area. Blair, Arcadia and Galesville are all facing major cleanup from flooding.
I am not always able to get to events, but I was sure glad I was able to wish Matthew Sedelbauer and Sharonna Burright a Happy Wedding Day in person.
Had fun visiting with friends I had not seen in awhile, the food was yummy, the sundae bar instead of a cake was a refreshing touch.
We had to leave fairly early in the evening but I always consider it a personal success when I don’t run into anyone with my walker, it doesn’t get away from me when going down an incline and we get me into the car before the rains came yet again.
Those of us not lucky enough to have belonged to a 4-H club have no idea of all the time it takes getting ready for the fair. Best of luck to the members of the Hixton Lucky Clovers in their participation of all the fun activities that the upcoming Jackson County Fair has to offer.
The fourth annual Linberg cousin reunion was held this past weekend at the home of Randy and Sue Lindberg.
It was a day to remember as newest grandbaby, Danika Rae Rommel, arrived. Danika is the daughter of Nicole and Chris Rommel and was also welcomed by her big sister Noelle.
Blueberries continue to be in the news as people are taking advantage of an abundant season. Hubby is even beating the birds at getting to the few plants that we have. I see a lot of blueberry jam, pies and pancakes in people’s futures.
July 21 marks what would have been the 100th birthday of my Godfather, Louie Smagacz. It’s been 17 years since his passing, but he was one of those larger than life kinds of persons that you miss every day. Happy Birthday in heaven Uncle Louie!
Every girl remembers her first crush and mine was actor/singer Bobby Sherman when I was 12 years old. Somehow it’s hard to believe that he turned 74 on July 21 as well. As far as that goes, I can’t believe I am 60 either. Where did all that time go?
Congratulations to Carly McPeak on receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from UW-Eau Claire.
I always enjoy receiving news from Susan Grotjahn—she manages to stay busy and has fun doing it. The heat has made her glad they can be in their pool as much as they can this summer.
She’s been busy again with grandkids as her son Chris had back surgery.
At Church she helped with the CrossTown Kids Zone at the Strawberry Festival and then Vacation Bible School. She took six kids to the fireworks in Hixton, saying it was a great show, but the bugs sure got them. This past Saturday, Kabi came up for the kids and Tom and Madi visited and stayed over too.
On Monday she and her sisters took her mom out for the day for her 80th birthday. Busy lady.
Mississippi Valley Pride took third place at tournaments held at Hallie Park in Chippewa Falls.
Taking the opportunity to say hello to Becky Frederick as the Village of Hixton’s new Clerk/Treasurer.

Word of the Week: choleric KOL-uh-rik; kuh-LAIR-ik (adjective)—1 : Easily irritated; inclined to anger; bad-tempered. 2 : Angry; indicating or expressing anger; excited by anger. (basically what I was when I saw everything was gone from my file!).
