Cross-country teams from Blair-Taylor, Lincoln and Melrose-Mindoro had one chance to make it to state Saturday as everyone traveled to Durand for the sectional meet.

Melrose-Mindoro came in to the meet with a bit of a chip on its shoulder after being edged out by Cochrane-Fountain City the week before.

The Mustangs got the better of its rival this time with some strong performances.

Sydney Becker came just barely out of first place and ended up second overall for Mel-Min.

Fellow Mustang Carrie Pfaff would also break into the top ten with an eighth place finish. Hannah Peterson finished at 15th for Mel-Min.

Season standout Thea McAdams of Blair-Taylor would fall just short of the top 20 at 23rd overall.

The Lincoln freshman Ashley Holmgreen and Elizabeth Prindle would come in at 67th and 68th respectively for the Hornets.

As a team the Mustangs came in third overall, behind Aquinas and Cashton, but beating out rival C-FC. The Wildcat girls came in tenth overall.

On the boys side it would be Blair-Taylor with the best runner as Preston Gutenberg came in sixth overall, continuing a stellar junior season.

Mel-Min would have a decent showing of its own as Junior Colton Sime came in 22nd overall.

Ethan Breheim of Lincoln finished 43rd overall for the Hornets.

The B-T team took 10th while Lincoln came in 14th overall.

Becker and Gutenberg will represent their respective schools Saturday, Oct. 28 at the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids.
