While banking definitely is lucrative, it's not the only way to earn six figures in the finance industry.
Finance industry jobs beyond Wall Street
The financial industry encompasses far more than Wall Street bankers with their expensive suits and extravagant lifestyles. While banking is definitely a lucrative route, it's not the only way to earn six figures in finance.
Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the following is a look at the top-paying jobs in the financial industry. Salary figures are averaged across nine sub-sectors within the overarching financial industry and reflect the average annual salary in 2015. Employment figures are summed across all of these sectors.
The salaries on this list range from $115,000 to nearly $220,000. As expected, higher salaries are associated with leadership positions, with managers and executives typically making the most. However, the ranking offers a surprisingly diverse array of jobs. Keep in mind that jobs can belong in a number of different industries and may only be tangentially related to the financial sector.
Note: When available, job descriptions were included and sourced (with minor edits) from the BLS. The nine sub-sectors include: federal and central banking, investment pools and funds, financial investments, credit intermediation, depository credit intermediation, non-depository credit intermediation, securities and commodity exchanges, securities and commodity intermediation, and funds and trusts.
