The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Central City, Iowa. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, conducted by Father Scott Boone. Inurnment for immediate family will be at a later date.

Ann is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lyle Vernon Carpenter; her sons, Roger (Kathy) Carpenter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Daniel (Cindy) Carpenter of Marion, Iowa; daughters, Joan (Tony) Rausch of West Salem, Valerie (Ron) Pecinovsky of Protivin, Iowa, and Wanda (Vance) Gordon of Marion; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, John (Louise) Nieland of Marion.

Ann was preceded in death by her son, Steven Ray; her parents; two brothers, Art and Leo Nieland; and three sisters, Dorothy Kraus, Mary Beckley and Charlotte Morris.

Ann was a home maker while raising her children and then began cleaning houses and businesses. She enjoyed roller skating, drawing, bowling, playing bingo, crocheting, fishing and spending time with her family. As most of you know she had a great love of hats, collecting Christmas bows and was a devout Catholic. Ann and Lyle lived in many places over their years together, such as Marion, Central City and New Hampton, Iowa. And then in Hastings, Minn., and finally in West Salem. She had a heart of gold and welcomed everyone into her home wherever she lived.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ann’s memory. Please share a memory of Ann at www.murdochfuneralhome.com under obituaries.
