Ants Palm-Leis, MD, 41, of La Crosse passed away on April 22, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born, April 21, 1969, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Rita and Mati Palm-Leis.
Ants was raised on a small family farm in Iola, Wis., and graduated from Iola - Scandinavia High School in 1986. He graduated in 1990, from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biology. He continued his education and graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison - Medical School in 1995. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1995 to 2002 at Lackland Airforce Base completing his internship and residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center.
He married in 1998. He left the military in the fall of 2002 and joined the cardiology fellowship program at Scott and White Hospital – Texas A&M in Temple, Texas. In July 2008, Ants returned to Wisconsin and served on the Cardiology Team at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse as an Interventional Cardiologist.
He was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Free Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mati Sr. and Rita Palm-Leis; his uncle, Ilmar Palm-Leis; and his grandmother, Marta Palm-Leis.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn (Rasmussen); his daughter, Katlin; and son, Kristjan. He is also survived by his brother, Mati Palm-Leis Jr. of Lone Rock, Wis.
A viewing of his body will be held for family and friends at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, 3936 County Road B, in La Crosse on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. with cremation to follow. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the church. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until time of services.
