ONTARIO — Caroline Smith, 70, of Ontario, Wis., passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
Caroline was born in Ontario on July 22, 1940, to Ernie and Mildred Clark. On July 28, 1958, she was united in marriage to Larry Smith and the two began their family in Janesville with four children. In 1966 they returned to Ontario where they ran several businesses throughout the years, including Larry’s Bar, the local restaurant, and the Driftwood Inn motel.
Caroline was involved in the Ontario Community Club and enjoyed sewing, painting, quilting and visiting with friends and family. Recently, she found joy in making scripture blankets to bring peace to cancer patients and visiting with people at The Mustard Seed.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Rory (Kathy) Smith, Laurie (Colin) Smith, Monte (Diana) Smith and Mona (Roy) Spohn; her grandchildren, Kaleena (Malachi) Emery, Michelle Nevin, Kolton and Jordan Smith, Jessica (Patrick) Compton, Kaitlyn and Dylan Smith, Casey and Breanna Spohn; and her great-grandchildren, Austin Gibbs, Macy, Zaden and Jadali Emery, Makayla Jerzyk, Kaston and Carter Compton; special neice, Gloria Kratche; along with many other relatives and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry; her grandson, Brandon Spohn; brothers, La Mont, La Verne, Herb, Darwin “Doc” and Jack Clark; sisters, Lola Wallace, Evelyn Riffle and Frances Zwiefel.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church, Ontario. Pastor Bob Streeter will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hilltop Rest Cemetery, Ontario. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday.
