HOLMEN — Darlene Ann Olson, 79, of Holmen passed away at Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in La Crosse Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017.
She was born in Holmen, April 8, 1938, to Alvin and Dorothy (Olson) Johnson. She was joined in marriage to Willis L. Olson Sept. 21, 1957. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Pamela and Bruce, then later with three precious grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Willis preceded her in passing May 27, 2006.
She belonged to Holmen Lutheran Church her entire life. Darlene spent her career in floral design at both Festival Foods and Michaels, until retirement. She also worked part time at Holmen Lutheran Church, in the office. Darlene was generous with her time, having volunteered at Bethany Lutheran Homes Hearten House in Holmen for 10 years. She was a charter member and past secretary of the Holmen Lionesses, and was an active member of the Onalaska YMCA, where she enjoyed water aerobics and playing cards and dominoes with a special group of friends. She also started a morning coffee group for friends at Jacqlon’s in Holmen and was a member of the Holmen garden club.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Pamela Phelps (fiancé, Steve Hammes) of La Crosse; grandchildren, Krista (Mike) Glosson of Gilberts, Ill., Amanda (Colt) Thompson of Lakeville, Minn., and Jordan (Jessica) Phelps of Stevens Point, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Colin, and Logan Glosson, Chloe and Rhone Thompson, and James Phelps; sister-in-law, Vickie Johnson; niece, Julie (Eric) Andracek and their children, Adam and Avery. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Bruce Olson; and her brother, Larry A. Johnson.
When at last I say “Goodbye,” don’t let your tears keep falling, for when my time has come, I’ll hear my savior sweetly calling and He has taken my hand, all pain and cares will disappear and He will gently whisper, “Welcome home, I’m glad you’re here.”
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris St., Holmen. Friends and family are invited to a memorial visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. A committal service will take place at Long Coulee Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Onalaska YMCA, Holmen Lutheran Church, or the Gundersen Medical Foundation for cancer research. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Please visit www.dickinsonfuneralhomes.com to share online condolences.
