BLACK RIVER FALLS — Elethe H. Nichols, 74, of Black River Falls passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at her home, while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.
She was born Feb. 2, 1938, in Black River Falls to William and Lavina (Davis) O’Brien.
Elethe grew up and graduated high school in La Crosse and lived there until moving back to Black River Falls in 1968.
She worked for the Ho-Chunk Nation in the Health Administration Department for over 30 years.
Elethe enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo, sewing, and most of all her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Elliott Garvin of Black River Falls; daughter, Karena (Dana) Thundercloud; sons, Ronald Nichols, Michael Nichols, and Steve (Shelly) Garvin; grandchildren, Robert Nichols, Peter Pettibone, Kimberly Nichols, Kirsten and Stephanie Day, Brockton Garvin, Emilie-Anne and Tyler Nichols; great-grandchildren, Jabril, Alicia, Kadance, and Brady; brothers and sisters, Polly Cholka, John, Terry, Francis Steindorf, and Bruce O’Brien; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Elethe was preceded in death by her parents, Lavina and William; son, Kevin; sisters, Janice Fisher, Jenny Steindorf, and Olivia O’Brien; brothers, William O’Brien and Harry Steindorf.
Traditional Native American services will be held at noon today, May 17, 2012, at Elethe’s residence, N6801 Eddy Rd., Black River Falls. Burial will follow in Decorah Cemetery, Black River Falls. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the services today at the residence.
