HOLMEN — Florence Elizabeth (Hafner) Alberts, 100, of La Crosse and Holmen, died on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at the Aster Retirement Communities in Marshfield, Wis.
She was born Feb. 25, 1913, in La Crosse to John Sherman Hafner and Mary Fay (Puent) Hafner and attended La Crosse schools. On May 29, 1936, she married John Alberts at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman in La Crosse and he preceded her in death on May 26, 2010.
Florence enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, playing cards and bingo, listening to Lawrence Welk, traveling the United States, living in Florida during the winter months and nurturing her five children.
Florence is survived by her five children, John Alberts of Spartanburg, S.C., Bernard (Kaye) Alberts of Marshfield, Thomas (Carol) Alberts of Appleton, Wis., Donald (Carolyn) Alberts of Wilmington, N.C. and Karen Alberts of La Crosse; eight grandchildren; Chris Alberts, Lorie (Jim) Moran, Greg (Laurie) Alberts, Mark (Brenda) Alberts, Melissa (Rob) Edwards, Jeff Alberts, Chad Alberts and Kristen Alberts; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Moran, Kaitlin Alberts, Jacob Edwards, Shannon Edwards and Saylor Alberts; along with a sister-in-law, Lorraine Derouin of La Crosse. In addition to her husband John, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters; Henrietta Kendhammer and Josephine Kelberger.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse with Rev. Robert J. Cook officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum, Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
