SPARTA — MSGT USAF Retired Graydon “Grady” K. Garlough, 81, of Sparta, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at his home. He was born on Oct. 7, 1931, in Watford City, N.D. to Glenn and Mabel (Oseng) Garlough.

Grady served his country from 1951 to 1971, retiring after 20 years and 29 days. He served in Korea and Da Nang, Vietnam. He enjoyed serving. He worked in different factories, but the job he loved the most was delivering Winnebago Motorhomes directly from the plant in Forest City, Iowa. During those years, he made five trips delivering to Alaska.

Grady enjoyed almost all sports, including football (his Bears) and hockey (his Blackhawks).

He met his future wife and best friend in 1984. They left Forest City, Iowa and lived in a lot of places, favoring the Texas Coast and Gulfport, Miss. until Katrina sent them back to Sparta.

Grady is survived by his wife, Sandra (Sassy); children, Jerry (Carol) of Rochester, N.H., Laura (Kerry) Grodin of Somersworth N.H., Glenn (Melissa) of Melvin Village, N.H., Keith of Santa Rose, Calif., and Grady P of Lotus, Calif.; stepsons, Bryan (Michelle) Pedersen of Cherokee, Iowa, Kent (Jana) Pedersen of Cascade, Iowa, Michael (Veronica) Pedersen of Crystal Lake, Iowa, and Chad (Trudy) Pedersen of Milford, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sharon (Adrienne) Stoddard of Blaine, Minn.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Shirley Mitchell; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday  at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Chaplain Kathleen Charles officiating. Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post 2112. Burial will be held at a later date.
