Joan O. Peterson (nee Bangsberg) passed away Friday, March 2, 2018, at age 84.
Joan was born Feb. 18, 1934, in La Crosse. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard. Joan and Richard were married April 5, 1957, at the Presbyterian Church in Mindoro.
Joan had many friends and enjoyed being with and around people and often added humor to social activities. Among other activities, Joan was an avid bowler and golfer. She was a board member and officer of the Women’s Bowling Association and very involved in junior bowling. She was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers, New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers. Joan worked for the School District of La Crosse for many years and truly enjoyed educating children.
Joan is survived by her seven children, Renee (Gary) Messing, Kari Peterson (Benito De Leon), Louise (Daniel) Olson, Jayne (Farid) Firouzbakht, Glenn (Lori) Peterson, Richelle (Patrick) Anhalt and Noel (Amy) Peterson. Loving grandma to Rachel Sems, Benito De Leon, Jodi (Dustin) Ammerman, Danielle (Nathan) Graham, Benjamin Olson, Peter Firouzbakht, Sam Firouzbakht, Nicholas Shoults, Andrew Peterson, Jacob Peterson, Hanna Anhalt, James Anhalt, Tyler Miles, Cole Molland and Jennifer Peterson. Proud great-grandma to Rene’ Sems, Brynlee Ammerman, Luke Ammerman, Alden Graham, Brooklyn Graham and Blake Olson. She is also survived by her half-brother, Mike (Vicki) Bangsberg; and a large extended family.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at North Presbyterian Church, 1327 North Salem Road, in La Crosse. Pastor Scott Skogan will officiate. A visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the church. A celebration of Joan’s life will follow the service from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Coulee Golf Bowl in Onalaska. Cremation and private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joan’s name may be made to the North Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the Coulee Region Humane Society.
