Nellie Caroline (Erickson) Wolden, 100, of La Crosse died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.
Nellie was born in La Crosse, Feb. 21, 1917, to Fred and Hattie (Schneller) Erickson and grew up on La Crosse’s North Side, with her three sisters, Nora, Grace and Mae. In 1934, Nellie graduated from Logan High School and proudly wore her class ring for the last 84 years. She married Palmer Wolden and became the parents of their only child, Russell. She and Palmer later divorced. Nellie especially enjoyed her extended family tradition of the Christmas Eve gatherings she hosted into her 90s. She worked at Gundersen Lutheran as a housekeeper until her retirement.
She is survived by her son, Russ; two grandsons, Mike of La Crosse, Mark (Tami) Wolden of La Crosse;her two great-grandchildren, Tyler Wolden and Samuel Wolden; and several nieces and nephews.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Nora Ritter, Mae Guggenbuehl and Grace Tryggestad; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wolden.
Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the start of the service at Fossum Funeral and Cremation Service in Onalaska. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
