LAS VEGAS/LA CROSSE —Phyllis Marie Hurm, 84, of Las Vegas, previously a resident of La Crosse passed away Dec. 26, 2013.

Phyllis was born Sept. 5, 1929, in Chicago, to the late Harold and the late Martha (Lier) Hurm. A devoted Catholic, Phyllis had a great faith in Jesus and she passed this love and faith on to her daughter. A woman of many interests and talents, she worked as a caregiver to the elderly, a writer for the Prior Lake Newspaper,  (Minn.), an employment agent and a salesperson. She had a love of the arts as well as traveling, football, hiking and boating.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Karen Kita of Las Vegas; sister, Elaine Mooney of La Crosse; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her foster daughter, Brenda Ernstl; sister, Audrey Hansen and husband, Louis Kita.

A viewing and funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 4, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, Las Vegas. A memorial mass will be held at 6 a.m., Jan. 6, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in La Crosse. There will also be a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Jan. 26, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, Iowa.
