VIROQUA — Richard D. Haugstad, 68, of Viroqua, a former Rochester business owner, lost his 11 year battle with cancer Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017.
A 1967 graduate of Preston High School, he achieved his Bachelor of Science degree from Winona State University in 1972. He worked as a production and later sales manager for Babcock Swine from 1973 to 1980. He then owned and operated several auto dealerships in Minnesota, Missouri, and Kansas. He later became an agent which led to speculating in real estate. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and most of all his horses and dog Jake. He is best known for his many friends and putting a smile on their faces with his great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Marian; and his sister, Barbara.
He is survived by his sister, Leann of Rochester, Minn.; his brother, Robert of Pennsylvania; and the love of his life, Jean Haakenson.
Funeral service for Richard Haugstad will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Preston United Methodist Church in Preston with the Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
