Russell Barry Anderson, 57, of La Crosse (formerly of La Crescent, Minn.), died peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Mayo Franciscan Healthcare after a long illness.
Russ was born Sept. 23, 1954, in Spring Grove to Marion and Albert B. "Chuck" Anderson. He graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1972, where he was active in band and choir and made many lifelong friends. After working for several years at G. Heileman Brewing, he attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis where he earned a certificate in radio broadcasting. He enjoyed working as an on-air personality for stations in Iowa, Colorado and La Crosse before moving into advertising sales. He also worked at Wal-mart for several years before retiring early for health reasons.
Russ married Lisa Docken on Sept. 13, 1985; they later divorced but remained friends. Their sons, Blake and Ian, were his pride and joy. He spent many happy times golfing with them and attending their sporting events.
He is survived by his mother, Marion Anderson of La Crosse; sons, Ian and Blake Anderson of La Crescent; sister, Kristy (Tom) Watson of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; brother, Lee (Lori) Anderson of Eagan, Minn.; niece Gretchen (Ben) Heavner and great-nephew, Eli; and nephews, Erik and Christopher Anderson. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert B. "Chuck" Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at North Presbyterian Church in La Crosse at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012. There will be visitation at the church for one hour before the service. Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is assisting the family.
