“There is no secret; great wine begins in the vineyard.”
While malbec can grow in California, these words from Robert Mondavi were perhaps some of the inspiration for sourcing grapes from the celebrated Mendoza region of Argentina.
This is Mondavi’s mid-priced label and it delivers what you expect from a top-shelf malbec. Give it a chance to breathe and enjoy the full-bodied multiple layers of dark fruit and berries. Time to break out the grill and pair with burgers.
Sherry: “Black currant, dark cherry and clove with a touch of licorice on the finish.” (3.5 stars out of 5)
Chris: “Cigar box bouquet with flavors of blackberry, cherry and plum with a hint of vanilla on the end.” (3.5 stars out of 5)
Available from $9 to $12.
