An 11-week brain fitness course called “Smart Seniors” will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Fridays, beginning Dec. 1, at the Goodwill Store at 3954 Mormon Coulee Road.

The program is based on the philosophy that having a fit brain involves more than physical activities. Each week will feature a different educational workshop about lifestyle choices and activities that older adults can do to maintain and improve their brain health.

It also will include many social aspects of life, such as stress reduction, mental exercise, remembering names and faces and getting adequate sleep, to name a few.

The $10 cost of the program includes a personal notebook with exercises recommended to keep a brain fit.

Collaborating to present the program are the La Crosse County Health Department, Spring Brook Assisted Living, Bethany St. Joseph Corp., the City of La Crosse Park and Recreation Department, Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare and Move It or Lose It.

Participants are asked to register by calling 608-785-9872 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
