VIROQUA — The Vernon Area Rehabilitation Center, which offers services to children with varying abilities after school, during the summer and in their homes, has expanded services to La Crosse.

VARC Children’s Services will assist children and families who had been using a similar program that ended early this year.

“VARC is a community-focused organization, and when we were informed that there was a need for our services in La Crosse County, we saw an opportunity to enrich a wonderful community,” said Elizabeth Filter, VARC’s executive vice president.

VARC Children’s Services is looking at locations for expansion after an overwhelming response from the community, Filter said.

VARC, a nonprofit that has been serving individuals with varying abilities in the area since 1975, focuses on teaching independent living skills, promoting education, fostering community interaction and providing employment and life skills training.
