The Central High School band will perform with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Wind Ensemble the world premiere of “The Golden Gray” by composer Roy Magnuson at 7:30 p.m. today at Central High School.

The concert also will feature 2001 Central graduate Jamie Kember, a trombonist and educator in the Madison area, performing David Maslanka’s trombone concerto.

Maslanka and Magnuson worked with students this week as part of the Central Band Composer Residency Project.

The 1:30 p.m. Sunday concert will have the Central Wind Ensemble and the Central Symphonic Band, with special guests Tammy Fisher and Tom Brown. Kember will perform at the concert as well, along with La Crosse Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Derek Clark.

The composer residency project was funded through a grant by the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.
