ONALASKA — St. Paul-based Bremer Bank will begin construction in a few weeks on a new bank building on the west side of Theater Road, south of the Goodwill Industries store in Onalaska.

Construction is expected to begin in late September or early October, and the new bank will open sometime next spring, said Dale Walter, market manager for Bremer Bank La Crosse. The site is in the Elmwood Business Park.

Bremer Bank entered the La Crosse market in January, when it opened a temporary loan production office at 100 N. Sixth St. in downtown La Crosse. At the time, bank officials said they were looking at sites in La Crosse and Onalaska for a permanent bank building.

“We have no immediate plans (for a second location after the Onalaska facility opens), but would desire to have a downtown La Crosse location in the future,” Walter said.

He said the Onalaska site was chosen based on availability of land and regional access for the surrounding area.

The Onalaska bank is expected to have 15 to 20 employees, Walter said, and will offer a full range of retail, agriculture and business banking, mortgage, investments and insurance products and services.

Bremer Bank will occupy the entire 6,800-square-foot, one-story Onalaska building, which will have drive-up lanes and a drive-up ATM.

While the building is being constructed, Walter said, Bremer Bank will continue to make connections in the community and conduct business from its temporary loan production office in La Crosse. For more information, call the office at 608-782-6711.
