Prosecutors charged two men Monday in an Aug. 11 burglary that led to a shooting.
Clifton Traywick, 21, of Stevens Point, Wis., and Duane Strelow, 22, of Campbell, each were charged Monday in La Crosse County Circuit Court with burglary as party to the crime. Traywick also is charged with felony bail jumping.
The tenant at 417 S. Eighth St. told police he heard someone kicking in his back door at 6:55 a.m. He found Traywick in the kitchen and shot him as he fled to a Ford Escape waiting outside the house, according to the complaint.
Traywick walked into Mayo Clinic Health Care System alone with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Strelow told police he met up with Traywick early that day and that Traywick picked up two other men in Strelow’s car while Strelow slept in the passenger seat. The three men told Strelow they planned to burglarize a house and that he would receive a portion of the profit from the stolen items, the complaint stated.
A computer was taken during the burglary.
No other arrests have been made.
