SPARTA — The Monroe County Board of Supervisors will shrink from 24 to 16 members in 2016.
With all precincts reporting, the referendum passed with a 3,639 to 1,954 vote.
Supervisor Pete Peterson, who spearheaded the effort to get the question on the ballot, said the results show what voters want from their county government.
“This is nothing but a total support for the referendum,” Peterson said.
Peterson argued a smaller board would increase efficiency in board decisions.
The county will have two years to complete the redistricting process.
