Area high schools swept the top three spots and made up five of six finalist choirs at last weekend’s Logan Showcase competition, with Holmen’s Midwest Express winning the grand championship trophy.
It was the second grand championship of the season for Midwest Express, which also won awards for best closer and costumes, along with the People’s Choice Award.
La Crosse Central’s Grand Central Station was second, winning awards for best band, opening number and ballad while sharing the award for best choreography with Onalaska’s Hilltoppers, which won top honors for best vocals and place third overall.
Rounding out the top six were, in order, Executive Session from Sauk Prairie High School, Limited Edition from Tomah High School and the Singsations from West Salem High School.
Other schools competing in the Mixed Division included Madison East, Eau Claire North and Altoona, all from Wisconsin.
West Salem’s Vivace took top honors among all-female choirs, with Sauk Prairie’s YTBN and Holmen’s Midwest Magic taking second- and third-place honors, respectively.
In the prep division, Onalaska’s Express, Sparta’s Upstage Adrenaline and Washburn’s Fire and Ice won first, second and third.
Grand Central Station closes out its competition season Feb. 24 in Dubuque, Iowa, while Onalaska’s Hilltoppers go to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Holmen goes to Marion, Iowa, and Logan goes to Brodhead.
Onalaska, Logan and Tomah all will finish their seasons at Holmen’s annual Gathering of the Stars competition, to be held March 3.
