Man injured in Sparta shooting

A Sparta police officer is on administrative leave after a late Thursday shooting left a man with life-threatening injuries.

The officer, whose name was not released, was called to a house on the 400 block of Austin Street for a 911 hang up call about 10:10 p.m., according to Sparta police.

The victim was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Sparta and then transferred to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Police did not release his name or age.

The officer was not injured and placed on leave as standard practice.

Police said they would not release details about the shooting until Monday.

The state Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation is also investigating the shooting.
