SPARTA -- Three people from Germany died when their car struck a deer before it was rear-ended by a semi Sunday evening on Interstate 90 in Monroe County, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The vehicle stopped in the west lanes near mile marker 30 about 7:30 p.m. after it hit the deer. A semi then crashed into the car, pushing it into the ditch before the semi overturned.
All three people in the car — ages 20, 22 and 20 — died at the scene. Their names were not released.
The driver of the semi — 46-year-old Ivica Modrusic of Missouri — is hospitalized at Mayo Clinic Health System in Sparta with serious injuries.
