Five people, including three children, were injured Sunday afternoon when the Amish buggy they were riding in was struck from behind by an SUV in Sauk County, with the SUV not stopping at the scene.

The crash happened at about 4:50 p.m. on Highway 58 near Quaker Valley Drive in the town of Ironton, the Sheriff's Office said.

The SUV, a blue-colored 1999 GMC Yukon, was found unoccupied in rural Cazenovia in Richland County. Deputies are looking for the driver.

The investigation showed the horse-drawn Amish buggy was southbound on Highway 58, straddling the right edge of the pavement, when the SUV came up from behind and hit the rear of the buggy, then kept going down the road.

The impact ejected the buggy riders, all from rural La Valle. The three children had minor injuries and the two adults had non-life threatening injuries. All were taken to Reedsburg Area Medical Center.

Evidence at the scene enabled deputies to find the SUV.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Sauk County Sheriff's Office, 356-4895.
