The Way It Was: 1922 Winter Carnival Parade

1922 Winter Carnival parade

A La Crosse Rubber Mills marching unit taking part in La Crosse’s 1922 Winter Carnival Parade on Jan. 26, 1922. Shown here at Third and Division streets, this unit consisted of nearly 400 men and women dressed in matching red-and-white outfits and featured a large rubber overshoe float in which a costumed queen rode.

In addition to the parade, other events of the carnival included a ski jumping tournament, ice skating races, street dancing, horse racing at Riverside Park and a toboggan slide in Pettibone Park, according to Tribune files.
