TOWN OF CAMPBELL — One person is dead and two others were critically injured after a six-vehicle crash today just east of Exit 2 on Interstate 90.

Traffic slowed about 7:50 a.m. in the east lanes to allow for cars merging onto the interstate when the driver of a dump truck hauling dirt from the construction site crashed into a Ford Mustang at 55 mph, State Patrol Sgt. Luke Yahn said.

The dump trunk ended up atop the Mustang before both vehicles caught fire. The driver of that car was killed.

The crash caused a chain reaction that involved four other vehicles, Yahn said.

One person was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and a second person with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the dump truck refused medical attention. The case is under investigation.
