The Viroqua Area School District announced today it will be dismissing students early due to the weather.

Viroqua students at the elementary school will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m., and students at the middle and high schools will be dismissed at 2 p.m. The early closing means all evening activities at the Viroqua schools also have been postponed or cancelled.

The Westby School District announced it also is postponing or canceling all events this evening.

At about 11:30 a.m., heavier snow began falling in central Vernon County. Big, fluffy flakes of snow were coming down steadily at 12:45 p.m., adding to what appeared to already be 4 to 5 inches of snow on the ground since the winter storm began early Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service forecasts snow may continue until midnight.
