A longtime Winona pizza place is shutting its doors.

Godfather’s Pizza announced Thursday morning on its Facebook page that it will close effective immediately.

“After 28 years in Winona, we have decided to close,” the Facebook post read. “Thank you to everyone who has supported us and to the many organizations who we helped raise money for your special causes, it’s been our pleasure to have served the Winona community.”

A phone message left for franchisee owner Brad Price was not immediately returned.

Godfather’s was known for its daily lunch buffets, and its event room hosted many birthday parties over the years. It’s one of the few restaurants in Winona with a view of the Mississippi River.
