As the obesity rate and other health issues continue to climb in the United States, it is clear we need to put an end to processed foods by switching to organic products and supporting our local organic farmers.
Fast food has made its way into every aspect of society. Fast food is now served at restaurants, drive-thrus, elementary schools and universities. Eric Schlosser, author of the best seller “Fast Food Nation,”
said, “Americans now spend more money on fast food than on higher education, computer software or new cars.”
The main concern of this new fast-food lifestyle is our health, and we need to take action by switching to organic foods.
Obesity is the most evident effect of these genetically engineered fast foods. According to the World Health Organization, there are more than 1 billion overweight adults, and at least 300 million of them are obese.
In the face of this need, it’s great that local farmers such as Todd E. Huffman grow Organic Valley products right here in La Crosse. We need to take advantage of our local farmers to spread the wealth of the delicious organic foods that they grow. Organic Valley and other organic farms enable a healthy human livelihood by providing quality products that help to maintain the healthy lifestyle we need.
Remember, every time we stand in the checkout line we are voting for the type of food to survive, whether it is processed or organic.
