MADISON, Wis. - Lawmakers have created a special committee to review the state's financial aid programs for higher education and recommend policy changes.
The committee will be chaired by Rep. Joan Ballweg, a Republican of Markesan who has been involved in financial aid issues in recent years.
Ballweg says the goal of the review is to improve access to higher education, make sure resources are being used effectively and retain graduates in Wisconsin.
She says the review will look at the Wisconsin Covenant program, the tuition reciprocity agreement between Wisconsin and Minnesota, need-based grants and loans, and loan forgiveness programs.
