MADISON — A pair of retiring state senators has scheduled a public meeting to discuss changing the process by which the Legislature redraws political boundaries every 10 years.

Republican Sen. Dale Schultz and Democratic Sen. Tim Cullen organized the meeting for Monday in the state Capitol.

Democrats have been calling for changing the way redistricting is done after Republicans in 2011 drew the lines in a way that generally favors their party. Some are calling for something closer to Iowa's model in which the drawing of political lines is done by a nonpartisan agency.

Invited speakers include two University of Wisconsin-Madison professors and redistricting experts, the legal counsel for the Iowa agency that does redistricting and the chairman of Common Cause Wisconsin.
