County Board Candidate Questionnaire
A. Why do you want to serve on the La
Crosse County Board? (Please limit this answer to 75 words so it will fit into
a standard format.)
To serve the people of the 3rd District. Their voice is important. To keep our gov. body to be of the people, by the people and for
the people – not dictated by a few and taxed out of our homes.
B. What
are the two most pressing issues facing La Crosse County, and what do you think
La Crosse County government should do about them?
To have a open gov. where board members are well informed, so they can
make the right decisions. No more heaps of pay to top people and a min. 2% to
the people who do the work. No more secret deals to line the pockets of a few.
The next
several questions will ask your feelings about past and future actions by the
county board. Please answer by putting an “X” next to the statement that most
closely reflects your view. Then, please explain your reasons in writing
1. Do you
support or oppose reducing the size of the county board by half?
Strongly
Oppose
Reason: Gov. should be open – with max. voice of the
people. The last thing we need is a dictator and a select few running our
lives. Thousands have given their lives for our freedom – don’t give it up. We
need a very transparent government. Top to bottom.
2. With
the switch to a county administrator four years ago, how satisfied are you with
the county board’s new role as a board of directors that makes policy decisions
rather than operational decisions?
Unsatisfied
Reason: More transparency is a must.
3. How
satisfied are you with the county administrator's new four-year contract?
Very
unsatisfied
Reason: Does a good job, but still not have a true home even in this state, he was paid what was agreed upon – if pay increase
was in order in a reasonable amount. But more than the governor is nuts. Anyone
can be replaced. Services are cut to pay for others is bare min. is a slap in
the face to all workers and county residents.
4. How
satisfied are you with the proposed “smart growth” comprehensive plan scheduled
for county board approval in coming months?
No
opinion
Reason: Not enough info available at this time. There has to be more igve and take. But we cannot keep destroying our farm land
– we cannot afford it.
5. Do you
support or oppose having the county board hold a referendum before borrowing
money for buildings or other capital projects?
Support
Reason:
6. Do you
support or oppose La Crosse County being the main developer of its vacant
Lakeview Farm property in West Salem?
Support
Reason:
7. Do you
support or oppose La Crosse County's criminal justice philosophy, which
includes finding alternatives to jail for offenders who are not a danger to the
community?
Oppose
Reason: Too many are running the streets and keep offending over and over. Two
people were killed by so-called non dangerous with bracelets on.
8. Do you support or oppose
spending more of the county's budget reserves to reduce the property tax levy?
Support
Reason:
9. Do you
support or oppose the state of Wisconsin's use of a "property tax
cap" which limits La Crosse County's ability to raise property taxes by 2
percent, or the percentage of new construction growth, in 2009?
Support
Reason:
10. Do
you support or oppose the county's plans for a $29.5 million jail expansion?
Strongly
Support
Reason: But do it right and have a section for female inmates. Jail space Is what is needed not more office space – use common sense.
