By the third week in April, we should no longer have to worry about inclement weather and bad roads; however, this year, Mother Nature had other plans.
On Wednesday, we received a storm that dropped anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of snow on our area. I had neither expected the volume nor speed at which it would accumulate, and I foolishly headed into La Crosse to get groceries and pick up my daughter from school.
Getting there was no problem; however, getting home proved to be another story. Just when Mother Nature gives you her worst, the people of Chaseburg (and the surrounding area) give you their best.
My vehicle got stuck halfway up the hill on Hwy. K. I was one of about five cars stuck on the side of the road. There was a group of people that worked hard to get every one of us pulled, pushed or towed up the hill.
I only got two names (Al Leis and Tim Servais), but there were others. Before I was able to make it all the way home, I was stuck again. This time, Cole Proctor helped me out, along with two other cars, my husband included.
Words cannot express my gratitude. Thank you to all that helped me and all the other people stuck. There is nowhere else I'd rather live.
