Isn't it comforting to know we live in an area where our liberal judges are soft on crime? Personally, I'm not all that thrilled with the idea.

The La Crosse Police Department is our first line of defense against the growing tide of crime that is infecting the Coulee Region. Meanwhile our liberal judges seem to be doing all they can to thwart the efforts of the police.

Nearly every day I read in the newspaper that some criminal with a long history of past offenses has been arrested for yet another heinous crime, only to be released on ridiculously low bail or signature bond and is back on the street to commit more crimes.

I believe word is getting around to places like Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and the Twin Cities that La Crosse is good for criminal activities. If apprehended, there is little chance of receiving any serious jail time or high bail. Is this what we want our area known for?

There are also homegrown criminals such as the man recently arrested and accused of years of horrendous sexual abuse on a young boy. He is back on the street while on unpaid leave from the Holmen school district. Why isn't he in jail and why hasn't he been fired?

We need to elect judges who are tough on crime. Perhaps if we do, we will begin to rid the streets of the vermin that continue to infect our beautiful area.
