I have several friends and acquaintances who describe themselves as real Republicans or real conservatives. They are making a distinction between what once was recognizable as the Republican Party and what that party is like now. They feel a need to make that distinction clear.
I know what they mean. We may agree or disagree with political party politics, but let's at least have civil discourse and valid argument.
Those of us concerned about the role and reputation of the United States at home and around the world do not disrespect the office of the presidency. In fact, we are concerned enough about that position that we want to give it the honor and respect it deserves.
Please understand that to be critical of one president's words and actions does not translate as a dismissal of that president's party or its supporters. I have several real Republican and conservative friends and acquaintances who are equally concerned. It is a real concern.
