"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient and the world will follow our lead into the future."

These words were spoken by Adolph Hitler in 1935. After the death of Paul Von Hindenberg, Hitler as chancellor along with his Nazi Party seized control of the German government.

One of the methods they used was the confiscation of firearms under the guise of public safety.

The German people have long been criticized for not rising up against the Nazis, but how were they supposed to rise up when they had no firearms to protect themselves?

Joseph Stalin used a similar approach in his tyrannical rule of Communist Russia.

The recent Florida High School shootings were tragic, but both the FBI and the Broward County Sheriff's Department failed miserably in their mission to protect the Public. As I recall, assault rifles were banned during the Clinton administration when Republican Sens. John Danforth of Missouri and Nancy Kassebaum of Kansas displayed great courage in voting with Democrats to ban assault rifles.

That law expired after Clinton left office. Perhaps it is time to resurrect it.

There are those people on the Democratic Party's far left who would love to abolish the Supreme Court's "Castle Doctrine" and ban gun ownership in the United States. If they succeed, law-abiding citizens will be at the mercy of terrorists, criminals and gangs like New York City's MS13.

Law enforcement can not be everywhere to protect us, and as the Florida High School massacre shows, they sometimes perform poorly.

We need the NRA to protect our Second Amendment rights because as sure as the sun rises in the east, "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."
