"Buy land, they ain’t making any more of the stuff.”
This quote, by Will Rogers, calls into question why the city fathers would want to degrade the crown jewel of La Crosse: Riverside Park.
As someone who visits the city at least once a week, for business and pleasure, I frequently enjoy the park, year-round. I also run an organization sponsoring its annual meeting, bringing in visitors from around the country, and certainly recognize the need for an expanded convention facility.
But please, this city has changed its riverfront from an unattractive former industrial site to something of true value. The park, along with its viewscape, should be preserved for future generations. Besides for its priceless beauty, it is a true economic asset in terms of attracting business visitors and tourists.
