Ryan Quinn took a step backward in his quest to play on the same PGA Tour as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker.

Quinn formerly of Galesville, turned in a 2-over-par 74 in the second round at the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School at Dayton Valley Country Club in Dayton, Nev., on Thursday.

The round left Quinn, 31, in a tie for 61st place at 1-over 145 with 36 holes to play. The low 22 finishers and ties advance to the second stage.

Water comes into play on 14 of the 18 holes. Quinn, a sixth-year pro now living in Lincoln, Neb., found water three times in his first two rounds.

"I'm trying to work things out. My swing feels better on the range and then on the golf course it feels a little bit off," he said.

Five players are tied for 19th place at 6-under par.

"I'm not going to put a number on it, but I have to go out and shoot in the 60's and make as many birdies as I can to have a chance for Saturday," Quinn said. "It will take two rounds in the 60's, but I'm looking forward to going out and doing that."
