MADISON - The bad news just keeps on coming for the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team.

Badgers coach Bo Ryan said on Monday afternoon that sophomore center Frank Kaminsky, a key reserve, won't play in Tuesday's game against Michigan State at the Kohl Center.

Ryan also said redshirt freshman point guard George Marshall missed Monday afternoon's practice with an illness.

It'll be the second straight missed game for Kaminsky, who was poked in the eye during the first half of last Tuesday's 64-59 victory at No. 2 Indiana.

"We're not going to have him (against Michigan State), but for how long I'm not sure until (trainer Henry Perez-Guerra) makes some kind of release on it," Ryan said. "It's a very unfortunate injury that he suffered there."

Third-year sophomore Evan Anderson got some work with the starters and top reserves during Sunday night's practice. I asked Ryan if Anderson was a realistic option for playing time.

"Yeah, I've done that a couple other times," Ryan said. "Just keeping him sharp, keeping him ready. You never know with foul trouble. You saw what happened against Iowa. We were scratching and clawing, trying to play from behind, you commit more fouls, you get guys in foul trouble. You've got to make sure guys are ready to add when they come into the game."

Marshall is coming off a career-high 20-point game during a 70-66 loss at Iowa on Saturday night.

Marshall had a remarkable finish vs. Iowa -- he had 16 points in the final 4:33 and nine in the final 30.1 seconds -- and said after the game that he hoped to keep playing as aggressive as he had during that stretch.

"Hopefully, he'll get better," said Ryan, who has been battling a bad cold for weeks. "But I certainly wouldn't wish what I have on anybody. I have no idea how something can hang and make a person feel this way for so long, and it's like, 'Thank goodness I don't have to guard and I don't have to score.' It doesn't sound like it's what yours truly has."
