ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Kyle Hayton made 32 saves, and Trent Frederic had a goal and two assists as the No. 18 University of Wisconsin men's hockey team moved back into third place in the Big Ten Conference with a 4-2 victory over No. 20 Michigan on Saturday at Yost Ice Arena.

Three stars

No. 3: Badgers defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk scored his third goal of the season and added an assist on a night when the UW back line played well.

No. 2: Kyle Hayton made 14 of his 32 saves in the first period, when Michigan had the better of the play but the Badgers took a 3-0 lead.

No. 1: For the second straight game, UW's Trent Frederic had three points. He has three goals and eight points in four games at Yost with the Badgers.

The Badgers host Minnesota at 8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday in the final two home games of the regular season.

Pregame

The University of Wisconsin men's hockey team will have to overcome a rare absence by Seamus Malone to try to split a Big Ten Conference series at Michigan on Saturday (6:30 p.m., FSW, 1310 AM).

Malone appeared to suffer shoulder injuries in Friday's game, including favoring his right arm after crashing into the boards while trying to keep the puck in the zone in the final two minutes of a 5-3 loss to the Wolverines.

He's out for only the second time in his three seasons with UW. The other was the regular-season finale last March for an automatic one-game suspension because of a spearing disqualification penalty.

The Badgers altered three of their four forward lines for Saturday's game as a result of the injury, and goalie Kyle Hayton is scheduled for his first start in five games.
