You should know: With the Big Ten Conference schedule expanding to 24 games this season because of the addition of Notre Dame, games between league teams are getting an earlier start. In the Big Ten’s first four seasons, UW’s first conference game was in late November or early December. Oct. 6 will be the earliest on the calendar that the Badgers have played a conference game. The previous early date was Oct. 9, 1987, a 6-2 victory over Northern Michigan in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association opener.

Buckeyes (0-0)

Coach: Steve Rohlik, 67-73-18 in his fifth season at Ohio State and overall.

Player to watch: Junior center Mason Jobst was a second-team All-American last season, when he had 19 goals and a team-high 55 points. Included in that total was two goals and six assists in five games against UW.

You should know: The Buckeyes are 5-0-2 in their past seven games at the Kohl Center, including a sweep of the Badgers to close last regular season after UW won games in Columbus, Ohio, and New York earlier in the season. ... Rohlik lamented his team’s defensive-zone coverage in a 7-4 exhibition loss to Canadian school Ryerson last Saturday. Sean Romeo, a transfer from Maine who is the only goaltender with collegiate experience on the roster, made 26 saves.
