MENOMONIE, Wis. — Milton Cummings made a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to give the UW-La Crosse men’s basketball team a 59-57 win over UW-Stout at Johnson Fieldhouse on Wednesday.
Cummings, who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, answered a basket by Zach Dahl that capped a big run and gave the Blue Devils a 57-56 lead with 44 seconds to go.
The Eagles (11-7, 3-4 WIAC) had a 56-47 lead when Ben Meinholz made a 3-pointer with 6:09 left, but Stout (7-11, 1-6) scored the next 10 points. Dahl and Sam Ortmann scored four points each during the Blue Devils’ run.
Meinholz also scored 15 points for La Crosse, which held a 30-26 halftime lead and turned the ball over three times during Stout’s run at the end of the game. The Eagles held a 35-20 rebounding advantage and were scoreless between the closing 3-pointer by Meinholz with 6:09 left and Cummings’ shot with 13 seconds to go.
Brendon Manning had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for La Crosse, which shot 19 percent (4-for-21) from the 3-point line and committed 19 turnovers. The Blue Devils turned the ball over 16 times and were led by a 16-point effort from Ortmann.
Western 60, St. Cloud 53
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Lexi Schroeder scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Cavaliers (3-13, 2-3), who won their second game in a row.
Danna Kendall went 3-for-3 from the 3-point line and added 11 points for Western, which also received 10 points from Kerrigan Lyga and trailed 27-23 at halftime.
Casey Moger had nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Cavaliers.
