The UW-La Crosse baseball team opened its season with a 2-0 victory over nationally ranked St. Thomas (Minn.) at U.S. Bank Stadium on Tuesday.

The Eagles, who received votes in the current poll, scored in the first and seventh innings to beat the e17th-ranked Tommies.

Shane Coker brought Nate Heili home on a groundout to open the scoring, and Luke Schmitt doubled home pinch runner Alex Robson with one out in the seventh.

Mason McMahon pitched 4⅓ innings and struck out 10 while allowing three hits and two walks. Caleb Williams picked up the save, allowing one walk and striking out one over 2⅔ innings.

The Eagles play Southern Maine in Auburndale, Fla., on Saturday.
