AUSTIN, Minn. — Winning is often the best medicine for an ailing team, and the Coulee Region Chill have been sick for several weeks.
On Saturday, they swallowed a much-needed spoonful of victory.
And two players led the way. Steven Quagliata and Billy Duma both registered three-point nights at Riverside Arena, and the Chill snapped a three-game skid with a 4-1 victory over Austin. With the win, Coulee Region moved within two points of third-place Springfield, and stretched its points lead to seven over fifth-place Fairbanks.
Caleb Schroer got things started, taking assists from Duma and Quagliata before scoring his eighth goal of the year at 10:55 of the second period. Joey Sofo later snapped a seven-game goalless streak with his 15th of the year at 17:27 of the same stanza, which reclaimed a 2-1 lead for the Chill.
Duma and Quagliata cleaned it up from there, as both scored goals in the third period to mop up just their third victory since Dec. 2.
Coulee Region goaltender Joe Marcoullier collected his first win over two months with a 28-save effort.
